What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Plastic corn over parti blend

Were you happy with them? No, the facilities in the cabin were excellent, but the pegs were dangerous, soil had been put on top and not compacted down, making them muddy and slippery. Peg 4 collapsed at the right hand corner causing a knee injury to one of our party

General comments: The lake is infested with Poisson chat, they hit everything that went into the water, a 22mm boilie would last 10 - 15 minutes. Netting and armour tubing did not work either. 700 in a week is a bit much.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Using bait boat to far margins, then going round and dropping parti blend in on top. The poisson chat were attacking everything we put in. Plastic corn kept them at bay.

General comments: This is a great venue. Mehdi had done some work on the swims and after 2 days of rain they were a bit muddy, but once they dried out it was fine. Supermarket close by. Mehdi is a great guy.

Brief details of your catches: We had an incredible week's hauling taking no less than 67 catp between us including 27 carp over 30lb! My mate Darren bagged a 38lb common, my other mate Clint a common of 37lb whilst I managed two different 35lb mirrors! We also had some Grass Carp to over 25lb!

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Quest Baits Pineapple Crush boilies meshed in tights scored really well for us as did Dynamite Monster Tiger Nut boilies. We fished over large beds of particles and found the baitboats to be a massive edge.

Were the facilities what you expected? Top class

Were you happy with them? More than happy.

General comments: Old Oaks is a class venue for the angler who likes to get plenty of runs. You better be fit though because the action can be hectic and the carp fight harder than any I have ever caught before!

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Plastic corn over hemp and sweetcorn or just sweetcorn, fished right under far bank trees. Spend time on the far bank quietly watching where the fish visit.

Were the facilities what you expected? Yes... Plenty of hot water, power for chargers and freezer space.

General comments: Quite hard for a holiday venue. Massive amount of poison chats any baited area becomes a black wriggling mass of them. Impossible to fish pelletts or any boilie including Mehdis pineapple. Swims still under water & have to get in the lake to fish properly.

General comments: We came home early as the fish were spawning and not interested. Also due to heavy rain the swims were flooded, only 2 were fishable. You need to raise the level of the man made swims in order to ease the risk of flooding, and possibly put down bark chip. Shame as it's a nice venue

General comments: Mehdi is a very friendly guy and the facilities are well thought out but the swims were really flooded and although you could set up above the swims they were all extremely muddy. He could have put chippings down to improve the swims as he had recently cut down some trees! Some minor issues spoil an otherwise lovely lake. *****NOTE FROM ANGLING LINES***** This year has seen an exceptionally wet start to the season in France - water levels are very high on many lakes, higher than ever before on many. This could not have been anticipated but putting anything down in the swims after they are waterlogged is impossible - it would cause significant damage to the banks with large machinery. Unfortunately wet conditions are an unavoidable risk of going to France early season & this year has been very wet.

What did you find were the best tactics/baits: Boated Baits to far margins, tried finding clear spots in open water and baiting it up during the week, but this surprisingly producing nothing. Fish appeared to be at end of lake where the chalet is.

General comments: We were the first paying anglers to fish Old Oaks in April a couple of years ago and are aware of the results that are possible on Old Oaks. We regard 10 fish between 4 anglers as pretty poor for Old Oaks but some weeks they just don't play ball! The conditions were pretty poor and it appears there has been alot of rain this spring. The water level was approx a foot or more higher than the last time. I've noted the comments from AL regarding fishing during spring and don't agree. Whilst we all expect poor weather this time of year, every swim was under water. When we FIRST went, the swims that were built into the lake were half submerged. They haven't changed and with more rain this spring they are now completely flooded. I would suggest the swims were built during lower water levels that do not take into account spring levels. To fish this lake in spring you either need to accept that the swims will be completely or at least partially flooded - or Mehdi needs to raise their levels. That said Mehdi is a superb host and passionate carp angler and we wish him all the best!
